Privacy Policy

Caveman version: Caveman not spy on you. Long version below.

What we collect

Browsing and asking Caveman questions requires no account and no sign-up — we do not collect your name, email, or profile for that. Standard server logs (IP address, request time) exist briefly for abuse prevention and rate limiting.

Optional accounts

You can create a free account (for donor perks like ad-free across devices). If you do, we store your email address, an optional display name, a securely hashed password, and login sessions. If you donate via Ko-fi, Ko-fi sends us the email you donated with so we can attach the ad-free perk to it. You can delete your account yourself at any time on the account page — deletion is immediate. Accounts are for people 13 and older.

Your questions

When you ask Caveman something, your question (and the recent conversation) is sent to an AI provider (such as OpenAI or Anthropic) to generate the answer, under their API terms. Questions are not linked to your identity by us. Don't put personal or sensitive information in questions.

Cookies and local storage

We use browser local storage for small preferences (for example, remembering that you donated and should not see ads). No tracking cookies are set by us.

Ads

If advertising is enabled, ads are served by Google AdSense. Google may use cookies or similar technologies to personalise ads; visitors in the EEA/UK/CH are shown a consent dialog first. You can read more in Google's advertising policy. Donating removes ads on this site.

Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights — cookieless, aggregate page-view and performance measurement that does not identify or track you across sites. We also keep anonymous aggregate counters (for example, how many questions were asked today). We never store the text of your questions.

Your rights

Under privacy laws like the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, and the Australian Privacy Act you have rights over personal data such as access, correction, and deletion. Without an account we hold no personal data about you — browser flags live in your own browser (clear site data to remove them). With an account, you can see and delete everything we hold from the account page; to also remove a donation entitlement record, email privacy@cavemanexplain.com and we will erase it.

Children

The site is fun for all ages, but it is not directed at children under 13 and we knowingly collect no data from anyone.
